The New Year Preventative Health Check on March 11 is your opportunity to glean some insights from the experts on the simple things that you can do to stay well - and you will be supporting diabetes education at St Vincent's Hospital at the same time. Preventing or delaying disease is possible... and it’s easier than you may think. With improved screening for and early detection of disease, better understanding of how our environment, exercise and diet contribute to illness and new protective foods and personalised nutritional and lifestyle approaches to disease prevention – now is the time to take action to ensure your good health. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from our panel of speakers: a doctor, a sportsman and a nutritionist, sharing their insights and opinions on the simple things that you can do for your future wellbeing. Event Tickets: $50 per person After our speakers, enjoy drinks and canapés plus our raffle draw. The Curran Foundation is proud to support Diabetes Education at St Vincent’s The prevalence of diabetes in Australia has trebled in the last 20 years. It now affects one in twenty adults and commonly occurs in those under the age of 40. The St Vincent’s Diabetes Centre has been at the forefront of tackling this growing health problem, pioneering out-patient management for diabetes related illnesses which previously required hospitalisation and championing diabetes education and prevention. Proceeds from this event will support a trial programme at St Vincent’s for a multidisciplinary education workshop for young diabetes patients. The evening-based programme will incorporate sessions with exercise physiologists and psychologists as well as the Centre’s endocrinologists, dietitians and educators and will aim to increase access to diabetes services as well as providing greater health support. |

MORE ABOUT THE CURRAN FOUNDATION The Paul and Elizabeth Curran Foundation was established in 1984 with the objective of providing a perpetual source of funding to foster advances and excellence in patient care, education and research on the St Vincent’s Hospital Campus in Darlinghurst, Sydney. The institutions on the Campus – St Vincent’s Hospital, St Vincent’s Private Hospital and the Garvan Institute of Medical Research – have been responsible for many of the surgical and research breakthroughs in Australia while at the same time addressing the health needs of the underprivileged and marginalised in the local inner city community. The achievements of St Vincent’s and the Garvan can be credited to the many brilliant minds who have worked there and the spirit of compassion that is the legacy of the founding Sisters of Charity, however, many of these successes may never have been realised had it not been for community support and philanthropy. The Curran Foundation is proud to have provided over $10 million in grants to the Campus for vital equipment, research programmes, clinical education initiatives and facilities that improve patient comfort while in hospital. |
