Through the generosity of the Schirato and Winton families, the Curran Foundation supported the acquisition of a BioRad MyiQ REAL Time Thermal Cycler System for the St Vincent’s Cancer Research Unit.
This new technology enables the Unit to better identify people at risk of developing cancer or those in the early stages of cancer development.
This state-of-the-art MyiQ system measures the amount of altered DNA present in an individual’s DNA and the amount of DNA that is produced (or some cases, not produced) by the affected gene.
The equipment also has important applications for the Unit’s
investigations into an early-warning test for cancer.
